Our Story: The Ceremony & The Music

Adam and I have received multiple messages from followers wanting more details about our October 2014 Wedding, so why not do a little Throwback Thursday  and relive our big day by sharing the sounds of our ceremony.

Everything was perfect. Beyond any expectation I had and more than I could ever imagine. Our wedding was us. We tried to make it as personalized as we could- from the venue to the food – every little detail was a piece of each of us.

If you’ve not seen our previous wedding posts, Adam and I said “I Do” at an airport hanger in Peachtree City, GA. Guests had a view of the runway and the beautiful sunset behind our rustic alter. While guests arrived we had a few tunes playing in the background. I can’t remember all that we had on loop and who knows where the iPod, but here’s a little sampling!

One of my favorite parts of our wedding was walking down the isle. As a young girl it is something you think about all the time. How you’ll walk, what you will wear, will you cry or not. Once my Dad and I made it to the double antique doors draped in burlap my nerves really kicked in. I heard the crowd shuffling to stand up, which my Mom will forever say they stood up too early- she had strict instructions to stand at the 10 second mark.

I don’t remember much about the ceremony from that point on, but I remember looking up at my Dad, smiling at him, squeezing his arm and fighting to hold back tears. I looked over to my right-hand lady, Melissa and said, “Let’s go.”

“You Sure?” Melissa questioned.

“Yes.” I answered

Before my forever planned Grand Entrance to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri could happen, Dad and I walked out together, towards Adam.

It was all I could do to hold back my tears. I couldn’t look at anyone in the crowd, especially my Mom and Aunt Tina- I simply focused on Adam.

Thankfully I met him with just being a little teary eyed. Something we both had in common. I am tearing up sharing it with you now. It was simply perfect.

I’m so glad we chose an untraditional song to walk down the isle to. Now, each time I hear “A Thousand Years” tears start flowing. I relive that moment, our moment once again. The butterflies come back and I can’t help but smile.

Throw Back Thursday: West Coast Wanders {Part 2}

Up and at ’em again! You’d think after a long day of touring six wineries Adam and I would relax by the pool at the Meritage Resort. Yea right! We have more vineyards to see and wines to try!

If you missed our Tuesday Travels post, take a look and get caught up on our two day trip to Napa Valley.

Friday: 

@HeliHubby and I started our Friday morning with a late Breakfast at The Boon Fly Cafe. Wow y’all! Talk about good eats! You’ve got to make a stop if you’re in the area and start with their “Bakers Dozen Donuts.” So not healthy, but oh so yummy! They are mini cinnamon/sugar donuts served with a variety of jellys to dip the in. Yum! Yum!

Adam had a omelet and I ate the Poppa Joe’s Egg in a Hole…so so good! Really, can you tell how much we enjoyed it? I can’t wait to go back!

Our first Winery of the day, was Bouchaine Vineyards.

They are the oldest winery in the region and are now a locally owned boutique style winery. We can not say enough wonderful things about this tasting.  Our tasting guides Alli and Tyler were the best we had our entire trip- they could not have provided a better experience! Both were extremely knowledgable about the wine and the wine making process. We loved that we could tell they both genuinely loved their job. We found another delicious sweet wine here too! We can’t wait to return!

After our tasting at Bouchaine we stopped by Etude for another quick tasting. Their tasting cost is a bit more expensive than most wineries in the area, however, we were able to taste very high end bottles. (Wines that Adam and I would never buy-way too pricey for us!) A great experience though!

From Etude we went to Artesa Winery.

The tasting room is very unique, it’s built into a hill- you’d never know it was there!

Artesa has a large outdoor tasting area- awesome views of the grounds and the valley area. On a beautiful sunny day, it is the perfect spot to sit, relax, take in the views and taste the wines!

Artesa had the “youngest crowd” and was the most busy out of all the wineries we visited. It actually felt like we were at a club fighting to get to the bar for a drink. While there we met an older couple that was part of their wine club and they could not even get service. The views were awesome, but not worth going back to and fighting the crowds. We each had one glass of champagne and left. Disappointing.

Our final tasting of our trip was at Domaine Carneros. {You can see the grounds of Domaine Carneros from the observation deck of Artesa.}

We planned to visit this vineyard midday, because they are one of the very few that serves food alongside their tastings. (at an additional cost) It is definitely worth paying a little more though! Reservations are required, we planned about an hour at each winery tasting prior in order to make it in time for our reservation. Again, another site with gorgeous views and a large outdoor tasting area.

Adam and I each did the Grande Champagne tasting with the Charcuterie Plate. (A selection of artisan meats served with sliced baguette.) Our host was an older French gentleman- he just loved Adam and I! He brought us out an additional dessert Champagne to try along with some dark chocolate to top off our visit! It was another favorite spot added to our list!

We loved our time in Napa and can not wait to start planning a trip back. We could literally spend weeks out there and not see everything! Have you done a wine tasting trip out to Napa or Sonoma? We’d love to hear from you! What are your favorite vineyards to tour? Wines to taste?

Tuesday Travels: West Coast Wanders {Part One}

After weeks of researching and following other travel blogs it was finally time for @Helihubby and I to head to the West Coast!  Our bags were overpacked and we were off to start Adam’s 30th Birthday Celebration!

We flew Delta– Lord knows that is another story! Thanks to Delta’s little mess up, I almost didn’t make it through TSA Screeners! With a little Southern Charm and persuading them with my Stella&Dot Business Cards (with my maiden name) they let me through! WHEW! We flew into SFO, picked up our rental car and our first stop? A very late night supper stop at IN-N-OUT Burger. YUMMMMM!!!!

The first two days of our trip were spent in Napa. If you have not been and like wine-or don’t like wine- it is a must do trip! We absolutely loved this portion of our vacation! The only thing we wish we had done differently was allowed more time to just relax at our hotel, The Meritage Resort.They welcomed us with a bottle of wine and a view of a vineyard outside our backdoor. We could have spent a week in Napa alone.

Thursday: 

We started the day about 7am. First stop, Oakville Grocery. We heard time and time again from friends about this “cute little grocery store” we just had to stop at on our way into Napa Valley. Boy were they right! It was darling!

Oakville is a great stop to start {or end} your day. They have a reasonably priced and unique sandwich menu with picnic tables in a vineyard to dine. Adam and I each had a Breakfast Sandwich…wish I could remember what it was, but oh so tasty!

 We did a little shopping- picked up a loaf of bread, a selection of local cheeses and meats for us to snack on throughout the day.

{This is the way to go! If you’re  planning a day of tastings stop and grab some snacks. There are not many places to stop for lunch between vineyards.}

Oakville is full of local products and has so much character. During their recent renovation they discovered a well (pictured below) that was originally made when Oakville began in the 1800’s.

From Oakville Grocery we continued into Napa Valley for our 10am tour at Castello di Amorosa.

Apparently Napa is a small world! I ran into one of my best friends from Middle/High School, Brianna and her fiancé Darryl at The Castle! They were recently engaged at Frog’s Leap Winery and were back visiting. They have a great engagement story, if you have some time give it a read!

I will say, the tour is fantastic, you learn a lot about the property. Did you know it was used for a Rose Ceremony for the Bachelor during Jake Pavelka’s season? (See the atrium picture below) If you are interested in learning more about the wine and the wine making process, the general tour is probably not for you.  That was the only disappointment we left with- wish we had learned more about wine rather than the facility.

Out of all the wineries we visited and tastings we did, we left The Castle with the most bottles of wine! We had heard mixed reviews on their selection and really didn’t know what to expect going into the tour. They ended up having two fantastic, sweet wines that both Adam and I enjoyed. We were able to taste 5 wines each accompanied with Sea Salted Chocolate- to die for! Best part of the tasting!

During our Castle Tour we also got to sample a Cabernet right out of the barrel- pretty cool! Cheers to our first tasting!

Next stop, Sterling Vineyards.

Sterling is the only vineyard with an arial tram- spectacular views!  We really enjoyed the pace of this winery. They had 5 or 6 different tasting stations for us to visit. We were able to go at our pace touring the vineyard and tasting the variations they offered. Definitely worth visiting for the views alone! (Part of your entrance fee includes a Sterling Wine glass to take home.) Cheers!

 From Sterling we hopped over to Beringer. Beringer was not originally on our schedule, but just happens to be the producer of a White Zin that my Aunt Tina’s loves. Soooo we just had to stop by!

We continued our planned tastings to Sutter Home Winery. Sutter Home is the only winery in the Valley that still offers FREE, yes, you read correctly, FREE tastings! You are offered a variety of 5 samplings- some of the wines are sold nationally in your local grocery store and others are specific to only being sold at the winery.

Sutter Home was my favorite stop along our route. Our server, Jennifer, was so friendly and knowledgable…and not to mention she is a huge BRAVES fan! While at our tasting we ran into another couple from Atlanta and just had the best time tasting and getting tips of things to see and do in San Francisco! It was the most fun we’d had at a tasting all day! Thanks Jennifer!

On the way to our final winery we ended up taking a detour to Freemark Abbey’s tasting room. They are currently going through renovations, but we had a great time at our impromptu tasting. They had a wide selection of red wines to taste- Adam and I shared one tasting flight. It’s a small venue right now- standing room only, but a nice little spot to stop if you want to avoid the crowds. Freemark Abbey Freemark Abbey 2

Whew! Are you tired yet? Five wineries in the books on Day 1 and just one more to go! Our last Vineyard for the day was Mumm.

Mumm is known for their Bubbly- what a fun way to end our first day!

All their tastings are table service in an open atrium setting and have spectacular views! It was a great place to end our tasting tour for the day. (Side note- we did visit near closing time and traffic leaving was horrible! Keep that in mind for future plans)

Our final stop on the way back to the resort was the V Marketplace in Yountville. You’ve got to stop by while you are in the Napa area. The vintage 1870 building is the home to Napa’s original hot air balloon company. The building has been restored and is now home to multiple shops, art galleries and restaurants. We browsed around Napa Style- a cafe style shop with all sorts of locally made cooking spices and sauces. (Stay tuned to our Friday Favorites Blog for a details on one of our favorite souvenirs!)

We grabbed a few appetizers and cocktails at Bottega. Oh-My-Gosh! If you can get in, definitely make a stop! Food Network Chef, Michael Chiarello, created a farm to table Italian style menu. It was fantastic! We ordered Polpette alla Griglia-Grilled short rib meatballs, Chiarello Family Vineyard Zinfandel conserva, Cipollini agrodolce, kumqats, sunchoke passata-so delicious! We could have ordered more! We also tried their Calamari Fritti a Monterey Calamari crisped with Arborio rice flour and aioli nero. Each table is served a bread loaf with an absolutely amazing Asiago and Reggiano cheeses dip with fresh garlic, chili and fresh herbs. It is to die for y’all! Oh so yummy! I’m craving it now!

What a busy and exciting first day of visiting Napa! Six wineries in one day! Stay tuned for {Part 2} of our West Coast Wanders later this week!

Monday’s Menu

Well little Miss Rachael Ray has been at it again y’all! I was quite the busy bee in the kitchen last week and thought I’d share one of our favorite (and easy) meals I recently made for Monday’s Menu.

Garlic Brased Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans

While I was doing some shopping at Williams Sonoma recently, I came across their Meal Starters (aka: Life Savors)! Y’all I can only imagine how much busy Moms will love this product! We used their “40 Clove Garlic Chicken Braising Base” for this quick and easy Monday Supper.

To make the chicken using the Braising Base, season 1lb boneless, skinless chicken breast with salt and pepper. Heat 1Tbsp of EVOO in a skillet and sear both sides of the chicken. Once seared place chicken in a pot (we used our favorite Le Creuset Pot), cover with the Braising Base and cook according to the label.

It was delicious over my homemade mashed potatoes, but it was very rich in garlic flavor. (Word to the Wise if you don’t like garlic, this dish is not for you.)

Our Garlic Mashed Potatoes were a mix of, Paula Dean and The Pioneer Woman recipes. I mashed my potatoes and then used my electric mixer making the potatoes smooth and creamy. Take a look at both recipes- I used half & half, garlic powder and cream cheese. (Oh my gosh y’all this was a brilliant idea!) I also added fresh chopped chives, bacon bits and cheese to the mixture. I served the Chicken on top of the Mashed Potatoes.

Throw some fresh green beans into boiling water. Cook about 10 minutes, until bright green and softened. Drain. Drizzle a little EVOO, add a dash of Garlic Powder, salt & pepper to taste. Yum!

I don’t know about y’all but thinking about this meal is making me hungry now! Guess it’s time to get into the kitchen and start playing Rachael Ray for supper tonight! On the menu? Prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin with an arugula salad. We will let you know how it goes! Off to cook!

Throwback Thursday: Our “Charleston Dining List”

We have had an overwhelming response of E-Mails and Messages from our last post, Tuesday Travels: Quaint Charleston. Everyone has been asking what exactly our “Charleston Dining List” consisted of.

So….here you go! If you are planning a trip to Charleston here is what we had on our list. Some were recommendations from our friends and family, others from blogs I follow, and through research of Mr. Googler himself, Adam.

Charleston:

Breakfast:

Caviar and Bananas: (also great for a Sandwich on-the-go. Thanks Sous Style for the recommendation!)

Lunch:

Husk: The BEST lunch we had during our trip. They are on the “Farm to Table” trend and their menu changes daily. Their Supper service books 6-8 weeks out. We got lucky with Lunch reservations- highly recommend getting a reservation otherwise you will be waiting hours! Definitely worth the wait!

Fleets Landing: Our friend, Laurie, shared this gem with us! It is the only restaurant in Charleston directly over the water.  Their stuffed hushpuppies are to-die-for y’all. We also had oysters- they were good, but not as good as other restaurants we went to.

Happy Hour:

Amen Street (Fish&Raw Bar): Some of the BEST oysters in both size and taste we had ever had. They had fantastic prices on oysters, cocktails and other small apps. They shuck the Oysters right at the bar- so fun to watch! (Make sure to sit at the Bar- they don’t advertise the Happy Hour and it is only at the bar between 4-7pm weekdays)

The Social: We just got cocktails, but they were great! Hand-crafted toddies are the best!

Supper:

Pearlz: By far our FAVORITE spot we found on our trip. Everything was delicious. Their oysters were great- and the cheapest (for the size) we found in downtown Charleston. They serve their oysters with a red/white vinegar -onion sauce- so tasty! We loved it so much we tried to go back for their Happy Hour, but it was a 1.5 hour wait! (Also 4-7pm weekdays)

Mellow Mushroom: Most of y’all have probably either heard of or been to a Mellow Mushroom, but it is our favorite pizza spot. Now, don’t get me wrong, pizza was not on our “List,” but with me getting sick we loved the idea of delivery- and this Mellow delivers! Yay! If you have not been- you’ve got to try their homemade pretzels and beer cheese sauce- yum-o!

Since I got sick, our trip was cut rather short. These are places still on our “Charleston Dining List,” let us know if you try any of them!

  • Poogan’s Porch (Brunch/Lunch/Supper)
  • Hominy Grill (Breakfast/Brunch)
  • Sewee Resturant (Lunch/Supper) *in Mt. Pleasant

  • High Cotton (Supper)
  • 82 Queen (Supper/Happy Hour)
  • Magnolias

The only place we went to that we would not recommend would be Carmella’s. It is a super cute Dessert Bar, but the service is horrible. We went in early in the evening- maybe 10 other people in the entire restaurant. We sat at the bar and waited…and waited…and waited for over 10 minutes and never received service- AT the bar! So, we walked out and others followed us!

Friday Favorites: Ferrero Rocher Pie

Oh my! This Pie is Heavenly.

I wish I could take credit for coming up with it, but I can’t. One of my most dearest friends, Kristy, recently made it for her husband’s 30th Birthday….and it was love at first bite. Thank you Kristy {and Pinterest} for this most delicious recipe and this weeks Friday Favorties!

Ferrero Rocher Pie
Serves 8

Ingredients: 

Ingrediants

Crust

  • 28 chocolate wafer cookies, crushed – I used chocolate Oreos
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted
{I used a store bought pre-made Oreo Cookie Pie Crust}

Pie Filling

  • 3/4 cup hazelnut chocolate spread – I used Nutella
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup confectioners sugar (Or Powder Sugar)
  • 3 ounces 60% cacao dark chocolate, chopped very fine
  • 10 Ferrero Rocher chocolates, coarsely chopped

Final Touches

  • 6 ounces Cool Whip
  • 4 Ferrero Rocher chocolates, coarsely chopped

Method

  1. To begin, prepare your cookies and chocolate.  Using a food processor, crush the cookies into a fine crumble.  Set aside. (Remember if you use a store bought crust you can skip this and step 3&4).
  2. Using a small pairing knife, gently run the knife along the dark chocolate bar, creating small shavings.  {I used a microplane– made it SO much easier and quicker} This is a bit time consuming but completely worth it.  Large chunks will not work in this filling.  Set chocolate aside.  Do the same with the Ferrero Rocher chocolates and set aside.
  3. Melt butter and combine with cookie until all the crumbs are saturated.
  4. Using a 9-inch pie plate, press the crumbs into the bottom of the pie plate, covering the entire surface and forming the crust.  Make sure the cookie mixture is evenly distributed.  Place in the freezer.  mixing
  5. With an electric hand or standing mixer, combine the cream cheese, shaved dark chocolate, sugar, and hazelnut chocolate spread.  In three to five minutes, the mixture should become light and fluffy.  Then, on a low setting, combine Cool Whip and 10 chopped Ferrero Rocher chocolates.  Combine well.
  6. Remove the crust from the freezer.  Using a spatula, spread the filling mixture over the crust, covering completely and smoothly. Return to the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the filling to firm.
  7. Once the filling has grown semi-firm, remove from freezer.  Cover the filling with Cool Whip.  Then, sprinkle with remaining four Ferrero Rocher chocolate pieces.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

A Little of This and a Little of That.

Have you every had “just one of those days?”

Starving. You head home to cook supper, realize you forgot to take the meat out of the freezer and you are pretty much out of everything. Even as a newlywed, no children {just our dog, Samson} couple we still have those days.

After making a delicious and healthy meal earlier last week I was on a roll to keep going as both Adam and I transition to eat the Whole 30 way. I found a little of this and a little of that and nervously awaited Adam to taste my creation. A delicious smell filled our kitchen, but I wasn’t quite sure how my concoction was going to turn out. Surprising to us both, whatever I threw together tasted great! Super quick, easy and yummy meal for when you are in a pinch and want to eat {somewhat} healthy.

Ingredients:

(2) Small Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast

(1) Big Bunch of Asparagus

1/2 Bag of Maifun Rice Noodles

1tsp Beer Can Chick Seasoning  {Adam’s FAVORITE seasoning}

1/3tsp of Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (to taste)

Salt/Pepper to taste

Coconut Oil Spray

In sauce pan, bring water to a boil and cook noodles according to package. In a small skillet, spray with cooking oil. Wash and cut asparagus into 1inch pieces. Spray with Coconut Oil and season with seasonings. Cook until softened. Spray pan with Oil. Sprinkle Beer Can Chicken Seasoning on both sides of the chicken and cook all the way through. Cut chicken into pieces. Add asparagus to pan and mix. Plate noodles in a bowl. Top with Asparagus/Chicken Mixture and Enjoy!
