Tuesday Travels: Ciao Italia

A little over a month ago Adam had the grand idea for a Newly Newlywed Adventure. We began our search of where the road- or friendly skies- would take us. Originally, our plan was to return to Hawaii. IMG_1426.JPG

The Big Island and Kauai were still on our Wish List, but with the recent volcano eruption (and taking a helitour over the volcano was a “must do”) we opted to save that vacation for another time.

We spend days researching. Toyed with Iceland, Africa and Australia. It wasn’t until I put my Key To The World Travel Travel Planner skills to the test and happened to find a fantastic deal to Italy, we just couldn’t pass up.

So, with three weeks until take-off the planning began! Once we decided on Italy, we were both craving Italian food. Naturally, we had to have our “planning meetings” at Antico Pizza Napoletana. (AKA: The BEST pizza in Atlanta!) IMG_0394.JPG

IMG_2236.JPG

Unlike most of our vacations, this trip was very unplanned. Besides knowing where we were staying, we had no other set plans.  [I’ll just go ahead and put it out there…Being the planner that I am, I did a really good job with being flexible. Just ask Adam.}

July 3, 2018 our bags were packed and we said arrivederci to the USA onboard a Delta PINK RIBBON Plane. IMG_1054.JPG

IMG_1051

We flew in style- Delta One -for our first 8 hour leg of the trip to Amsterdam. Such fun cheers-ing to vacation and our time away! Our cabin mates just happened to be The Mingos and their entourage. After a 4 hour layer over in Amsterdam, a short 1.5 hour KLM flight and two landing attempts later (the Florence runway is quite small) we arrived in Italy about noon local time on July 4th. IMG_2244.JPG

We grabbed our luggage and headed to the Rental Car Center…that’s right, you read that correctly. We decided to rent a car and drive in Italy! That was an adventure in itself!

{Travel Tip: BE CAREFUL if you decide to rent a car internationally. Even though we used Enterprise and booked the car in advance, they tried to over charge us and cut our days on the rental. Thankfully Adam had copies of the agreement stored in his E-Mail and I had printed copies with me.  Slightly stressful, but we survived and so glad we ended up having a vehicle to get around. Also, keep in mind the rental car center is made up primarily of trailers all on gravel roads. It can be a bit of a work out pulling your luggage to and from your car.}

Two bags full of clothes, two over sized wine suitcases and 4 carry on bags later the Newly Newlyweds were ready to hit the road and head to our first stop, Borgo Argenina. A truly magical Bed & Breakfast we cannot wait to tell you all about!

IMG_2246.JPG

Follow along our Italian Adventure over the next days and weeks to come. We’re so looking forward to reminiscing to our time in Italy as we share it with y’all! We can’t wait to return to the beauty of Tuscany someday.

Until next time, we hope you’re enjoying your Newly Newlywed or Nearly Newlywed moments as much as we are!

Cheers Y’all!

Throwback Thursday: Travels with Thelma & Louise Finale

Mom and I have traveled 12+ hours, over four and half states to the GREAT State. Up to Oklahoma and now we’re on the final leg of our Throwback Thursday Thelma & Louise Summer shenanigans!

After taking in all that Pawhuska, OK had to offer Mert, Louise and I took the road back to Tulsa for the night. For the short amount of time we spent in the city, we had a fantastic time and would love to go back! I was so surprised at all the unique shopping and little restaurants.

We spent the night at the Hard Rock Tulsa to do a little gambling! Before we tried to hit it big, we explored downtown Tulsa for supper. We found a great little Mexican/Taco spot called El Guapo’s. IMG_7517.jpeg

Y’all their Margaritas are spot on! So delicious! They have one named “The Horny Toad,” you know the three of us TCU Frog Fans just had to give it a try! IMG_7520.jpegWe had great service at the bar and the food was great! We started with stuffed jalapeños  with a homemade ranch dipping sauce. Y’all they were to-die-for! I would go back for those alone! I had some sort of semi-healthy grilled pork dish with grilled mexican corn. Ah! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Guess we have to go back! IMG_7523.jpegIMG_7524.jpeg

Sadly, we didn’t win BIG money or any money that is at the Hard Rock Tulsa Casino, so we packed our bags and headed back to the GREAT STATE. The next day Mom and I said goodbye to our travel partner, Big Mert and hit the road for Waco.

{Ok, I know what all of our TCU friends are thinking right now. You know the only reason we would go to Waco is to 1) See TCU beat Baylor or 2) To get our DIY Fixer Upper on and check out the Magnolia Market at the Silos!}

Waco is just a few hours from the Big MP and since we were in no rush to get back to Georgia Mom and I decided to add a little adventure to our Thelma & Louise trip. We would visit Waco, maybe head to Houston to catch up with friends, maybe stay the night and eventually start our trip back to the Peach State. If you’re heading to Waco from Dallas a stop at Slovacek’s, a Czech bakery and gift shop is a MUST! They are known for their Czech kolaches. Best things ever! They are yeast-risen rounds of dough topped with fruit filling or in this case savory sausages. Is your tummy rumbling like mine right now? IMG_7573.jpeg

After stopping for a snack and a little shopping we finally made it to the Magnolia Market!!! IMG_7582.jpeg

No signs of Chip or Jo and it was packed of course! We didn’t take into consideration that it was July 4th weekend and everyone was off work- whoops! Poor planning on our part, but we had a great time anyways! We snapped a few photos, met new friends, toured the grounds, tried a few food trucks and did a little {more} shopping! IMG_7594.jpeg

Just like that we were back in car {imagine that} and on the road to Houston! No trip to the GREAT STATE would be complete without a stop at Buc-ee’s! IMG_7595.jpeg

We may or may not have planned our drive around stopping at a location or two. What’s Buc-ee’s? Think glamorized gas station. What? Is that even possible? How about, the Walmart of gas stations? Ok, ok more like the Target of gas stations.

It probably sounds ridiculous, but unless you have stopped and shopped at a Buc-ee’s you have no idea! They have it all- literally! From branded Buc-ee products that everyone loves (get the Buc-ee Beaver Nuggets- just trust me) to brands like Mud Pie and Kamado Joe, you’ll find it at Buc-ee’s, not to mention all the super cute Texas stuff!

After a stop or two at Buc-ee’s we decided to pass over Houston and head towards Georgia and stopped in Baton Rouge for the night! (TG & I both love a good hotel.) Shout out to my @helihubby for being quick on his toes and scoring us a room at the Watermark Hotel. In LOVE! It was a great location and such a trendy hotel. We got in late, ordered room service and hit the bed! IMG_7609.jpeg

Before hitting the road and rolling out of BR we did a quick swing by the Campus of LSU and the ZTA House. Of course I just had to get a picture! IMG_7655.JPG

We made a few stops along the way since we took a different route home and not our usual I-20, but opted to forgo the grand adventure to get back to Atlanta in time for the Braves July 4th Game! IMG_7642.JPG

Lordy! Are you exhausted? I am just thinking about all that driving and what a jam packed day it was! Just like that my Throwback Thursday Thelma & Louise stories have come to a close, for now anyways! It’ll be hard to top last year and all of our shenanigans, but I have no doubt whatever Mom and I get into this Summer it’ll be just as fun! I’m so lucky to have a Mom that is not only my Mom, but my best friend. We may drive each other crazy sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way and I am so thankful for our summers and time we get to spend together. Love you TG!

Do you have an Annual Mother-Daughter trip? I’d love to hear your stories! We’re always looking for new places to go and things to do – brownie points if they are in Texas! Thanks for coming along on our adventures! Stay tuned for more heading your way this Summer!

We hope you’re enjoying your Newly Newlywed or Nearly Newlywed moments as much as we are!

Cheers!

FaLaLaLa Fett’s Countdown to Christmas Continues….

Day Six is for success.

Tuesday was a Dewey Date Day! A successful Dewey Date Day at that.

After Adam got home, we had supper and started cleaning the kitchen when we noticed a little date box from Dewey. Inside? A Gingerbread House Kit. So with six days left in our FaLaLaLa Fett’s Countdown to Christmas we made a Gingerbread House!

FullSizeRender-4.jpeg

We are by no means pros at it! Our skills are about as good as a six year old’s! Icing everywhere and Samson anxiously waiting for tasty treats to drop for a quick retrieval.

FullSizeRender-6.jpeg

It might not be pretty, but we’d like to think it was a success…it was still standing this morning! Yippie! FullSizeRender-8.jpeg

Does your family build a Gingerbread House at Christmas time? Do you make the cookies from scratch or like our little Elf Dewey, do you use a kit? Do you have any tips for keeping it together? Share them with us!

Day Five is for Festive Festivities.

Who needs Miracle on 34th Street, when you have Miracle on Monroe?

Just kidding, Miracle on 34th Street will always be a favorite Christmas movie for me, but a new holiday favorite for the FaLaLaLa Fett’s is Miracle on Monroe. The ultimate festive festivity. Santa’s Workshop. Toy-Land. The North Pole. A “Christmas Dreamland” right here in Atlanta.

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 8.36.22 AM.png

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 8.35.29 AM.png

Miracle on Monroe is a pop-up Christmas bar that popped up in Atlanta last Christmas. Open from November 24th to December 24th, Wednesday to Sunday it’s quite the popping place! Expect to wait 2-6 hours to get in to explore this festive Adult Santa Land.

The walls are covered in wrapping paper. Strung lights cover the ceilings. A life size gingerbread house set up for photos and Christmas decor fills this Holiday Land.

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 8.36.45 AM.png

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 8.33.32 AM.png

Last week a few of my favorite ZTA ladies and I put on our most festive attire and popped by the pop-up bar to get in the HOLLYday spirit! It was a first for all of us and being that we wanted on Santa’s Good List, we were nice enough to invite Adam along too!

IMG_3709.JPG

IMG_3684.jpeg

All the drinks are served in Christmas themed glassware and were oh-so tasty too!  The “Bad Santa” was my favorite- a mulled red wine concoction. Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 8.42.42 AM.png

Smells of Sugarplums {ok really Trader Joe’s Cookies] filled the air.

RenderedImage-2.jpeg

While visions of ZTAs cheers-ing danced in my head.

If you’re in Atlanta between now and the 24th and you’re at least 21 make the time to pop on by this Favorite Festive Festivity of ours! We are already counting down the days for it to reopen next year!

Share your photos and thoughts of Miracle with us if you get a chance to visit!

Day Four is for {NOT} So Forced Family Fun.

You may or may not know this, but I LOVE Disney. Not in a weird obsession sort of way,  but I definitely go more often and know more Disney facts than the average person. This is probably not one of Adam’s favorite things about me….actually I know it isn’t.

Two weekends ago the FaLaLaLa Fett’s and Giamfortone’s packed our bags and headed out of Atlanta (just before the snow) to the happiest place on earth. DISNEY WORLD! What says Christmas more than spending the holidays at Disney World???

IMG_3131.jpeg

Saturday we bundled up (in Florida) and headed to Disney Springs, aka Downtown Disney to shop, have lunch and visit the tour of trees.

{Disney Tip: If you’ve not done the tour of trees I highly recommend it!} IMG_6480.jpeg

IMG_6491.jpeg

IMG_3157.jpeg

There were probably twenty different trees all in different Disney themes. Basically I wanted a picture with all of them, but Adam wouldn’t let me! We did however get our picture for next years Christmas Card! If you’ve not heard a few months ago we bought an airplane. The paint color on her just happened to be “Disney Blue.” After months of looking, Adam knew it was meant to be. We gave her the perfect name, “Elsa,” after Adam’s (not so) favorite Disney movie, Frozen.

IMG_3163.jpeg

As the sun went down, Mom, Dad, Adam and I took a bus over to the Wilderness Lodge– it is stunning year around and probably my favorite hotel on property.

IMG_3232.jpeg

IMG_3227.jpeg

Before heading back to Casa Mickey we returned to Downtown Disney (clearly I haven’t gotten used to calling it Disney Springs) to look at the main Christmas tree all lit up and take in the tunes of the Strolling Piano.

Sunday Adam and I braved the cold and did a little hotel hopping by the Polynesian and Grand Floridian before meeting up with my family at the Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Not to mention we just happened to have arrived at the Grand Floridian in time for a little toddy. Who says adults can’t have fun at Disney too?

IMG_3266.jpeg

IMG_3271.jpeg

IMG_3273.jpeg

IMG_3277.jpeg(Disney Tip- Spend a day hotel hopping while you’re in town- ask me more about it and I’ll be happy to share our tips and tricks!)

Adam and I did MVMCP last year and thought what fun it would be for a little Forced Family Fun to kick off the holidays! It’s an after hours event from 7pm-Midnight on select nights during the holiday season. You do not have to have an additional park ticket, but you do have to buy the specific ticket to the event. It is a wonderful time to see the park with NO lines for rides, special character greetings, parades and fireworks. Plus your ticket gets you unlimited treats and sweets during the party. It is the best way to do the Magic Kingdom at Christmas time. IMG_3308.jpeg

Not having to wait in line for our favorite rides is worth it in itself! IMG_3313.jpeg

IMG_3319.jpeg

We found the perfect spot to watch the Christmas parade and fireworks and did a little shopping before the clock struck twelve. We couldn’t be turning into pumpkins after all!

IMG_3500.jpeg

IMG_3501.jpeg

IMG_3502.jpeg

IMG_3524.jpeg

And of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Mouse House without trying on a pair of ears or two!

IMG_3212.jpeg

IMG_3213.jpeg

Have you been to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Did you love it as much as us? We hope you’re enjoying your Newly Newlywed or Nearly Newlywed Very Merry moments as much as we are!

Cheers!

FOOTBALL IS BACK!

Are you doing a little dance like @HeliHubby and I am? Seriously y’all, it’s our MOST favorite time of the year. Maybe it is because I grew up in the South or that there is so much history to Adam’s team of choice, but our passion for the game might be more of an obsession. (We did plan our wedding around Football after all.)

GAMEDAY officially kicks off tomorrow morning here in Atlanta for the Alabama vs FSU Game. How could today’s post not be about Football? It is one. of. our. MOST. favorite. things.

I’m sitting in the Atlanta Airport (of course next to the crying kid-but hey-there is free wine in the Sky Club) waiting for a plane to the GREAT state of Texas. For the first time in who knows how long BOTH Adam and I’s teams will not only be playing in the SAME State, but the SAME city! Our bags are packed and we are anxiously waiting to board our flight to DFW.

Tomorrow morning we will start our Football Saturday (yay) like any other. We will wake up, have coffee in bed, start our morning with our favorite five men of College Gameday, and do our ESPN College Pick’ems. Really y’all this is our Saturday morning routine in the Fall. Is it really Fall when it is 96 degrees outside?

We will both don our favorite Gameday outfits and head (for my first time) to the Jerry Dome, home of my Dallas Cowboys, to cheer on the Michigan Wolverines against Florida.

Last year’s Orange Bowl Game with Adam’s Cousin Erik. GO BLUE!

Then, life gets even better! After the Michigan Game, we’ll hop in the car, change into our PURPLE and head to Fort Worth to cheer on my TCU Horny Toads!

Is it Christmas? Somebody pinch me! Two. Yes, TWO college games in one day!

As excited as I am about the return of football and heading to the GREAT STATE to cheer on my two favorite teams, I can not post about my home state without acknowledging the devastation my hometown of Houston has experienced the last week. Thankfully our family and friends are all ok and have little to no flooding in their homes. The photos are horrific and I can not fathom the devastation the people of Houston are experiencing.

My heart truly breaks for my fellow Houstonians and I want to make a difference. I want to help bring hope to Houston. I want to see Houston thrive again.

Throwback Thursday: Not even newlyweds take on New York

Are we just dating? Are we “together”? Did Adam or I know each other’s middle names, favorite colors or board games as a child? All questions we might not of known the answers to when we took our first BIG trip together.

As Adam and I prepare to take-off on our next adventure to the BIG APPLE I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than a Throwback Thursday post about our first trip together.

We began dating in 2012… do you know our story? We were set up on a blind date by a coworker of Adam’s and the Mother of the family I was nannying for at the time. Long story short-ish….Adrienne spent months trying to set us up. We finally gave in and I, yes you read that correctly, I (Holly) got the nerve to call him on fall football Saturday afternoon. {After a TCU victory of course!}

We spent a couple of weeks texting regularly, chatting daily and agreed to not look each other up on Social Media or send photos of one another.  If/when we decided to meet it would truly be a “blind date.” We tackled all the touchy subjects before our first date. Yes…kids, religion, politics…we covered it all.

Two weeks after our first date was Christmas and my birthday…poor Adam.

As a {one time only} joint gift he surprised me with a trip to NYC and so comes our Throwback Thursday post!

We flew into LGA on a brisk January 4th afternoon.

NYC 1

As this was Adam’s first time to the Big Apple I played the part of tour guide. Our hotel was just a few blocks from Times Square. Shortly after landing and settling into out hotel we put on our walking shoes and started acting like tourists! We saw the lights of Times Square, the Toys R Us, Hershey and Lego Store. Strolled by Radio City Music Hall, the Rockefeller Ice Rink and Christmas Tree, where we took our first photo together after Adam got conned into buying a FDNY Beanie from a street vendor. {That’s a story for another post.}

NYC 2

That night Adam took me to see The Newsies on Broadway…it was fantastic! His first Broadway show was a success! {Little did he know how much I love the theater and how many times he would be going to the Fox Theatre from there on out.} If you get a chance to see it live, do it! If not, watch the movie!

NYC 6

Our second day in the city was spent roaming around like locals. Trying hole-in-the-wall restaurants, getting off the train on random spots, and doing a little shopping.

NYC 5

That night we grabbed some Starbucks and went on a Horse-and-Carriage ride through Central Park. Not to get all mushy, but it was oh-so romantic.

NYC 3.jpg

Our final day in the city was spent strolling through Central Park where I snapped one of my favorite photos of us. Until today, Adam didn’t know this photo existed. New York may not be known as “The City of Love,” but it will always be that to me. A magical city where my heart made room for Adam and a true love began to develop…oh lordy! Who am I being all sappy?

NYC 4

We can hardly wait for our next BIG CITY adventure! Are you a native New Yorker or just love to visit? We’d love to know your favorite, non-touristy spots as we get ready to embark on our trip.

Stay tuned for trip details!

We hope you are enjoying your Newly Newlywed or Nearly Newlywed moments as much as we are!

Cheers!

Our Story: I do….Me too!

Saturday, October 18th was a picture perfect day. There was a slight chill in the air and clear blue skies.

The girls got ready at a family friends house. Cute Anna Dobbs made us look beautiful with her make-up skills. Hair Stylist and family friend, Cherri King did my hair while the girls used some of their favorite local stylists. We hung out, watched football, shared stories with Michelle, a wedding story writer that was there to capture our day, snacked on Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuits, and sipped on Mimosas.

While we got ready for the BIG DAY, the guys helped Melissa and crew finish setting up the Hanger and got ready. Adam and I decided not to talk to each other or see each other prior to our ceremony, so I had no idea all that went on, before I walked down the isle. Instead of having a Unity Candle at our Ceremony, Adam and I chose to make a 1 Year Anniversary Box. We each wrote a letter to the other and sealed the box with a special bottle of wine. On our first anniversary we plan to share the wine, read the letters and remember all the memories and emotions we felt on our wedding day. Little did I know, giving Adam the duty to find the box for our ceremony meant sending our entire Bridal Party on a scavenger hunt throughout Peachtree City. Somehow the guys ended their hunt at Taco Mac to take in a little liquid courage before Adam had to say “I Do.”

The wind was wild on our Wedding Day. I didn’t know at the time, but family friends were running to Home Depot to buy bags of sand to hold down our Alter and were tying down decorations. View More: http://tulleandgrace.pass.us/airport

Other than the wind, everything was perfect. We could not have asked for better timing for our ceremony, the Sunset was stunning. Our Bridal Party looked great. Dad and I kept it together as I walked down the isle to, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. I was so nervous about crying. The only thing I remember about that 2 minute walk was just watching Adam. He started to cry and I knew, if I looked away from him, saw our family and friends, I too would cry.   {I’m not the most emotional girl, but I’m tearing up as I write our story.}View More: http://tulleandgrace.pass.us/airport

Adam and I both did out best to keep it together and not cry! We did more of the awkward, nervous laugh apparently! I don’t remember a thing from those few short moments, but Pastor, Chris Patton, from North Point Ministries, keep us together and on track. We said traditional vows and with our “I Do’s” we were husband and wife!

We surprised our guests and arrived at our reception in the same Helicopter Express Helicopter that Adam proposed in. Helicopter

We served Dicky’s BBQ (which is AMAZING by the way. Tasted great and they were the easiest vendor to work with! Call your local location rather than contacting corporate.) We said cheers to toasts from my Dad, Aunt Tina and the Best Man, Darin. Adam and his mom did their Mother/Son Dance and Dad and I followed with a dance to a collection of songs from the Twist to Gingham Style!

Hailey Monette, from Cherry on Top Delights, designed both our traditional Wedding Cake and Michigan Stadium Groom’s Cake. (Hailey is amazing. Makes the most creative, tastiest treats and delivers!) We danced the night away to tunes from the Band, The Remedies– best choice we could have made. {Yes Adam, I admit it…it was a good idea.} If you are considering getting a band- do it! Our Band is from Nashville and will travel, they are awesome!

Our TCU Fans said “Riff Ram Bah Zoo” and our Michigan Friends yelled, “Let’s Go BLUE!”

View More: http://tulleandgrace.pass.us/airportFor those that don’t know, I have always wanted a fall wedding. October in Georgia is beautiful, but smack in the middle of College Football Season! We chose our day, October 18th, Michigan Football’s bye week. Although we were in the clear on the football schedule, we share our day with my brother, Joey’s birthday. We had a special cake made for him and had the band sing “Happy Birthday!” Thanks Joey for sharing YOUR day with us!

My ZTA Sorority sisters sang {a little off pitch} our special ZTA Wedding Song and it was time to say goodnight! Our party ended about Midnight. Adam and I left in the helicopter and headed to Atlanta to officially begin our life as husband and wife!

View More: http://tulleandgrace.pass.us/airport

Adam and I can not thank our family and friends enough for all they invested into our day. From the planning, set-up, take-down and celebrating, thank you for  making our day so perfect in absolutely every way.

We hope you are enjoying your Newly or Nearly Newlywed moments!
