Christmas Eve 2013:

The day started with me being mad at Adam for wanting to make me get dressed at 10:00am on Christmas Eve morning for Breakfast. I normally would stick to my traditions of staying in PJs most of the day, cooking and wrapping last minutes gifts. He did some of his fine negotiating skills and talked me into changing my plans for Breakfast with him since he was off for the day. This was the first time a non-family member was invited over for Christmas Eve/Day with my family- it’s kind of a big deal. We wanted Adam to feel comfortable and invited him to bring some of his family’s traditions to our Christmas celebration. He planned to bring the infamous SLUSH for Christmas Eve.  This was the ONE thing he was in charge of for our evening gathering.

Adam showed up at my parents house at exactly 10:00am-I was expecting to go to Breakfast in Peachtree City, finish some of my wrapping and do some cooking before we were heading to Church that evening. I was dressed in workout clothes and a Zeta Tau Alpha sweatshirt….obviously I had no idea what was coming. Y’all know me I would have dressed up!

Poor Adam….I  made it extremely difficult for him to get me out of the house that morning by inviting my family to breakfast with us. Thankfully for him both my Dad and brother declined the invitation.

We got in Adam’s car and drove aimlessly around for a place to eat. Adam just knew he saw a little breakfast spot heading towards the interstate. Of course I knew there were no restaurants beside Waffle House in that direction, but instead of arguing with him I  gave in and said…”ok” assuming he was taking me there.

While we were on our way Adam decided to tell me he forgot the slush! The slush! The ONE thing he was in charge of bringing for our Christmas Eve gathering! He forgot the slush in Atlanta.Ugh! I was so mad and gave him the hardest time about forgetting it. {If only I knew what he had been up to} We opted for skipping breakfast, headed to Adam’s to pick up the slush and grab lunch on the way back down to Peachtree City. On our way to the city, Adam got a call from work and had to make a delivery to one of his clients. This is so typical I didn’t think anything of it. He gets calls almost every weekend and always on holidays, so I really didn’t question the call. We pulled up to the hanger, Adam ran inside with a large box and returned to the car about 15 minutes later. He was all excited and told me the mechanic got the part installed and they have to take the helicopter on a test run, since he was working on Christmas Eve the pilot asked if WE wanted to go up on the flight. I was so excited, but was extremely nervous- hello! “Test Flight????” After much reassurance from Adam and the pilot I said “yes!”

We flew over Stone Mountain, around downtown Atlanta and our cute little pilot told me  the helicopter we were in was being used for the filming of The Fast and the Furious. How cool!!! Of course I believed everything the pilot and Adam were saying. We went over Georgia Tech- y’all know me I  was so excited to take pictures of the football field and the Zeta Tau Alpha House from above. Being the sports fan that I am is one way I hooked Adam! Ha!

We were approaching Turner Field and I COULD NOT WAIT to take a picture of the field!  As the helicopter got over the field, Adam turned to me and y’all I just started shaking! I knew then what was going on. He reached in his pocket and started asking me to marry him! All I remember is I kept saying “Oh My Gosh! Oh My Gosh!” and immediately put the ring on my finger! Adam then asked me …”Well are you going to answer me? Is that a yes?” ha ha! Of course I said “YES!” and promptly started complaining for not letting me get my picture of The Ted! Thankfully Adam had the whole thing planned for weeks and the helicopter was wired with audio and video so we could share our moment with everyone!

We will post the video on a another Throw Back Thursday! Hope you are enjoying your newly or nearly newlywed moments!

Cheers!

Holly & Adam

PS: Remember we’re newlyweds not experts.
